Take time to schedule premarital counseling. As a LMFT, I have learned the value of these sessions throughout my years of practice. Some clients have even asked for sessions as bridal shower gifts. Its a gift that lasts a lifetime! Invest in your marriage and your future!

Go to bridal shows! Vendors often offer great specials and giveaways at shows.

Having your wedding on a Friday night is usually cheaper than doing it on a Saturday.

Set up a separate email account for wedding emails! Wedding vendors inundate you with emails, setting up a separate email account to house all of these emails that you either check more or less frequently than your everyday email account (depending on how much you use your everyday account), can help to keep all of the information regarding your wedding organized and readily available.

For the rehearsal dinner, we threw a casual outdoor barbecue for just our families, the officiant, and the bridal party. Keeping it low-key and super-small meant we had more to spend on the wedding itself.

There is nothing uglier than a stressed-out, grumpy bride. Roll with the punches and try to enjoy every minute of the event even if things don't go according to plan…because they never do!

Don't put yourself into debt to throw a blowout wedding. Too many couples think they need to wow everyone with a fancy affair and spend money they don't have to create this ideal 'fairy-tale' wedding. Don't lose sight of the fact of what's really important in all of the planning: Your commitment to each other and declaring that promise in front of all of your loved ones.

Hire a GREAT photographer...not good, but great. Even if you keep it simple, like I did, I can't think of anything more worth the expense than beautiful images to share and look back on.

Have natural makeup -- don't go overboard trying to be someone else on your big day. You want to look like yourself in pictures.
